Genius idea to tackle lockdown loneliness is huge hit with people of all ages
As Covid-19 restrictions continue, the risk to many of isolation, loneliness and mental health challenges is all too clear, but thousands of people are working hard in local community charities to make life better for people feeling the pressure.
And every time you play The Health Lottery’s draws or online scratchcards, you’re helping to raise precious funds to support these much-needed projects.
Plus, for a limited time, The Health Lottery is offering new customers a FREE chance to win up to £100,000. It couldn’t be easier: just register at healthlottery.co.uk and you’ll get a free ticket worth £1 to play in any of its main draws. When you enter any Wednesday or Saturday main lottery draw, your numbers will automatically be entered into a free draw, which also take place on those two days each week, giving you the chance to win £100,000!
More than £117million has been raised through The Health Lottery for good causes, supporting more than 3,000 grassroots projects and charities throughout Great Britain.
One of the ways many of these charities help people is by offering them support when they’re feeling isolated – nearly one in four people have reported feeling lonely during lockdown, according to a survey from the Mental Health Foundation.
So the work of organisations such as Yes! Brixham are more important than ever right now. The charity, based in Torbay, Devon, has benefited from over £37,000 of funding raised by Health Lottery South West to help support and build its MusicAtTheEdge project.
This brings together people of all ages to make music. And while the pandemic has changed the way it works, project co-ordinator Tom has been determined to keep things going by shifting its sessions online.
“With some of the group in their eighties, the move online was challenging, but in a way that makes me even more determined that we can succeed,” he says.
“Thanks to the support from money raised through The Health Lottery, we have been able to purchase instruments and equipment, which means our members are not excluded for simply not having the money to buy their own gear.
“It’s really brought home the power of local community projects and the benefit we bring to our members.”
So if you’d like to help support vital community projects like Yes! Brixham, and be in with the chance to win thousands of pounds, then why not play The Health Lottery? Remember: when you play, you help.
