  • Bill Oddie, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Graeme Garden opened their show on the bike

An iconic three-seater bicycle responsible for launching the much-loved Goodies comedy sketch show and dubbed the ‘trandem’ is to go under the hammer next month.

Episodes of the show, which ran during the 1970s and 80s, opened with Bill Oddie, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Graeme Garden riding the now beloved bicycle.

Once a television favourite, the show saw the trio coming up with wacky schemes that either made them incredibly rich or desperately broke.

The Goodies was once a household favourite and saw the comedy trio combine sketches and situational comedy

Inspired by the Monty Python brand of comedy, it is also responsible for hits such as The Funky Gibbon and Black Pudding Bertha.

The trio went through a number of bicycles during their tenure on the show – with the first being red in colour.

However when the Goodies left the BBC – which was the first broadcaster to produce the show – they had to leave their faithful red trandem behind.

A new bike was introduced for their move to LWT – a more modern looking blue model.

This blue bicycle will be going under the hammer next month and it featured in the final series of the show.

The Goodies ran for nine series and featured a number of different three-seater bicycles. Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie (pictured left to right) found huge success with the show

It makes its most prominent appearance in the episode A Change of Life – in which the Goodies recreate their falling off the trandem routine from the very first BBC episode, Tower of London.

It is due to go under the hammer at Surrey auctioneers Ewbank’s next month and is estimated to fetch between £1,000 and £1,500.

The Trandem has been used on many shows since its time on The Goodies including Return of the Goodies, Richard and Judy and has been owned by the comedy trio The Trap since the early 2000’s.

The auction is scheduled to take place at Ewbank’s Auctions in Surrey at 12pm on October 4.
