Hard-partying students enjoy Freshers' Week a little TOO much after big night out in Manchester

The students were seen out and about having the time of their lives as they got to know their new surroundings – however for some seen struggling on their way home it was all a bit much.

With lectures beginning in the coming days for University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan students, the freshers painted the town red before they get down to studying.

And the night appeared to be a big hit, with revellers seen having a laugh with cops and security staff outside clubs and bars.

Cheeky students were seen donning police officer's hats, while others had a kip in the street after partying too hard.

Although some were worse for wear as they made their way home, many seemed in great spirits.

There had been fears that "Generation Sensible" was going to shun the usual fresher events this year.

Hull University has even scrapped freshers week entirely, having changed one of its campus bars into an ice-cream parlour.

Meanwhile other universities are offering "café crawls" and other events to try and phase out boozing as a part of university life.

But that partying spirit is alive and well in Manchester if these pictures are anything to go by.
