Horrifying moment commuter is shoved in front of a taxi by man he ‘exchanged words with’ – so why did police only release the footage FOUR months after the attack?

Police are hunting for a disturbing ‘pusher’ who shoved an innocent pedestrian into oncoming traffic.

Footage shows a taxi screech to a halt and miss the victim by just inches after the man sneaks up on him from behind.

Police say the victim and his attacker had ‘exchanged words’ just before the attack after the pair brushed shoulders.

An onlooker took a photo of the pusher before he made his getaway.  

Although the incident took place on July 23, in New Bridge Street in the City of London, police have only just released the footage in a bid to catch the man.

They cited ‘protocol’ as the reason for the delay.

Despite the incident happening four months City of London Police have only just released an image of the suspect, citing ‘protocol’ as the reason for the delay

The incident occurred along New Bridge Street on July 23 2018 in front of witnesses

The victim told police that before the incident he had brushed shoulders and exchanged words with the suspect.

The victim continued to walk down the road on his way to work but he was followed by the suspect who then pushed him towards the oncoming cars.

The victim sustained grazes to his hands and arms and was dazed for a brief period of time.

Members of the public helped and some even followed the suspect to confront him.

One member of the public took a photo of the suspect which is being released by the City of London Police alongside CCTV of the incident.

In response to the reasons why the footage was delayed a police spokesperson said: ‘There was not big reason why the footage was delayed. We were just following protocol and there were lines of investigation we had to follow before releasing it to the public.’

Officers are now asking anyone who witnessed the bizarre attack to step forward.

Detective Constable Duff, from the City of London Police, said: ‘We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident in July or who may know the man in the photograph.

Members of the public were seen helping the victim from the road and some even followed the suspect to confront him

‘The quick thinking actions of the taxi driver undoubtedly prevented this incident having much more severe consequences for the victim. However he is still naturally shocked and horrified by what happened to him.

 Despite officers questioning more than 50 suspects  the hunt for the so-called ‘Putney Pusher’ was called off with the police admitting defeat in the hunt for the culprit.
