Shaun Walsh, 50, attacked his wife and his mistress at the home they all shared in Beaufort, near Ebbw Vale, South Wales

A husband living in a ‘menage a trois’ with his wife and mistress has been jailed – for attacking both women on the same day.

Shaun Walsh, 50, flew into a rage while sharing a home in the three-sided relationship in a quiet country village with the two women

A court heard he first attacked wife Sherin, 51, in their home – but mistress Karren Grainger, 47, went to her aid.

But fuming Walsh carried on with his assault and even urinated on the pair to humiliate both of his lovers.

Prosecutor Emma Harris told how Walsh had been married to his wife for 28 years – and had a teenage daughter with his mistress.

She said Walsh lived with them in ‘a highly unusual arrangement’ in the village of Beaufort, near Ebbw Vale, South Wales.

He had first attacked his wife Sherin in their bathroom after she noticed he was in a ‘bad mood’.

Miss Harris said: ‘He punched her in the nose, puller her hair and pushed her against the wall.

‘Walsh then shoved kitchen roll inside her mouth and she lost consciousness.

‘He poured a bucket of water over her. She felt she was going to die.’

Newport Crown Court heard how the mistress then came to the wife’s aid – only for her to be cut with a knife.

Walsh then urinated on both women who were cowering in fear from the ‘terrifying’ assault.

He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm against his wife and wounding his mistress.

Walsh, centre, first attacked his wife Sherrin, 51, left, and then assaulted his mistress Karren Grainger, 47, right, when she came to his wife’s aid

The court heard how both women now want ‘nothing more to do with him’.

A judge issued indefinite restraining orders against him from contacting them again.

Handyman Walsh wept during the hearing, appearing in court via video link from Swansea Prison.

Llyr Williams, mitigating, said his client had tried to self-harm during this current attack.

He said: ‘He is suffering from a number of health issues, including depression, and problems with his medication had contributed to his behaviour’.

The judge jailed him for 27 months.

Judge Recorder Ifan Wyn Lloyd Jones said: ‘Cases of domestic abuse are always viewed seriously by the courts.

Newport Crown Court heard Ms Grainger and Mrs Walsh will continue to live together in the three-bedroom family home

‘Both complainants were deaf ladies and I have no doubt about their vulnerability.

‘This was a determined attack and it must have been terrifying for them.

‘It was also aggravated by the fact you urinated on them which was gratuitous and degrading conduct.’

The three lived together for more than ten years in a three bedroomed semi-detached house with a private drive with a panoramic view over the valley.

The wife and the mistress – who are both profoundly deaf – are still living together in the house together after Walsh was jailed.

Commenting on her husband’s sentence following the hearing, Mrs Walsh said: ‘It wasn’t long enough.’

However, neither woman wanted to comment any further through a sign language interpreter.
