Jewellers horrified after claiming to find bugs in hand sanitiser stored in shop
Staff at a jewellers were horrified to find what they claim to be creepy crawlies in a hand sanitiser bottle.
The freak discovery was made at Coopers Jewellery on Barnstaple High Street, Devon by David Bruce and his daughter-in-law Debbie.
They had gone to refill a tub of hand sanitiser in the store for staff and customers to use in order to prevent the potential spread of coronavirus when they noticed the critters inside.
Debbie, who is the store's manager, said she thought they were pieces of shaving at first but was "distraught" after taking another look as they appeared to be tiny bugs.
“I think if any customer would have gone to use this hand sanitiser they would have dropped it on the floor screaming," she said.
“We think they were alive when we first saw them, but they’re not moving anymore. They’re horrible things when you look at them close up, definitely not something you’d want to rub in your hands.
“We have got three other bottles which have been used previously in the shop and we’ve never found those bottles to have issues.
"This bottle has been in the backroom for a month or so, so maybe it was in some form of egg and now they have grown somehow."
David said he has contacted manufacturer Perfume Addict UK.
He said: “We believe they’re manufactured in Nottingham and we have contacted the company and sent them a photograph.
