Lotto couple joined AA with winnings after breakdown en route to collect cheque

Lotto winners toast a £1million prize – after making AA membership their first purchase when their car broke down on the way to collect the cheque.

Richard Davies, 41, and girlfriend Faye Stevenson, 36, were stranded at Membury services, Wilts, on the M4 after a fuel line split on their Land Rover Discovery.

They EuroMillions Millionaire Maker winners were due to meet Camelot bosses in Watford on June 12.

Fearing they would miss the appointment, hairdresser Richard and nurse Faye rang the AA – and made it with five minutes to spare.

Richard, from Talgarth, South Wales, said: “We didn’t have membership so it was our first purchase.

“After hearing our story they prioritised our call-out.


“But we can afford a new car now so hopefully we won’t be having any more breakdowns.”

AA president Edmund King said: “We were thrilled to help.”
