Westminster police were attempting to take a shooting suspect into custody Friday night in Denver when the suspect was shot by officers.
Denver police are investigating the shooting, which happened just before 9 p.m. Friday in the 5300 block of Billings Street. The man who was shot was taken to a hospital.
On Sept. 16, 2020, Westminster police were called to the 4100 block of West 72nd Avenue on a report of a disturbance, police said Saturday. A woman told police that her boyfriend had shot her and fled.
An arrest warrant was issued for the suspect, who remained at large. On Thursday the victim called police and said the suspect showed up at her home, threatened her and damaged property.
On Friday, Westminster officers traced the suspect to Billings Street and “were attempting to take him into custody on charges related to the two incidents,” the statement said. No officers were injured.
Denver police on Saturday released no additional information on the shooting. The suspect’s name was not released.
