Meghan Markle’s dad Thomas seen for first time since Prince Harry and daughter announced Royal split – The Sun
THOMAS Markle has been pictured for the first time since his daughter Meghan and Prince Harry announced they are quitting as senior royals.
Mr Markle, who is estranged from the Duchess, was seen out shopping in Baja Mexico where is lives following a successful career as a Hollywood lighting director.
Hours after the royal couple revealed they were moving to North America, 75-year-old told US Weekly: “I'll just simply say I'm disappointed."
Mr Markle – who has had no contact with his daughter since 2018 – did not elaborate further on the reasons behind his disappointment.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their sensational announcement to quit on Wednesday – reportedly without consulting the Queen or Prince Charles.
Meghan, 38, then flew back to Vancouver Island, Canada the following day – leaving Harry to deal with the fallout.
Harry, 35, is now set for showdown talks with his father, 71, and his 93-year-old grandmother next week.
'DIVIDE AND CONQUER'
Thomas Markle’s other daughter Samantha said her half-sister appeared to be operating a “divide and conquer” strategy after rifts with the Markle clan – and now the Windsors.
She told The Sun: “At the beginning of this all I said that if she’ll do this to our family – she’ll do it to the royals. Now the rift between the Markles has become a royal rift.
“People were taking pot-shots at me for speaking up against Meghan, but I was just being honest. I’m not saying I told you so, but look at what has happened.
“Meghan has had the chance of a lifetime, that people all over the world would be proud to have, and she has blown it.”
There have also been questions raised about the former Suits actress’ ability to commit after quitting England and her duties as a senior royal after a little over 17 months.
The divorcee only managed 23 months of marriage to her first husband, producer Trevor Engelson after divorcing in August 2013.
Her interest in the Fab Four’s Royal Foundation quickly waned too after joining in February 2018. She and new husband Harry left to form their own charity in June the following year.
Their decision to quit as senior royals has sparked outrage – with Prince Charles "incandescent with rage" and the Queen said to be "disappointed".
But ex-pals claim their announcement to step back isn't surprising as Meghan and Harry always felt like "outsiders".
One source told the Daily Beast: "They just felt totally unwelcome."
It is rumoured Harry may fly to Canada to join his her as early as next week and there are fears he may never live in the UK ever again.
This comes as it has emerged the couple’s two dogs have stayed in North America after flying out with them for their Christmas break – in another clue that the break could be permanent.
Harry has a “packed” diary next week including an official engagement at Buckingham Palace on Thursday – which could be his last as a working royal, the Daily Mail reports.
