The row between Meghan Markle and her dad reached increasingly bitter depths this week after he gave his most explosive interview to date.
Royal aides have held at least three top-level meetings to devise a plan on how to deal with the volatile Thomas Markle who has said he will not be silenced.
The pair now seem deeply estranged – and one of Meghan’s pals has revealed their relationship has been difficult for years with troubles starting long before she met Prince Harry.
There is "no chance" the Duchess of Sussex will be willing to make up with her dad any time soon, the friend added.
Speaking to Mail Online , they said: "A reconciliation is completely off the table at the moment. There’s no chance right now – he’s been a complete embarrassment.
"They’ve had problems for some time – from before she met Prince Harry.
"She’s amazed by what’s happened but is taking what he says with a grain of salt."
Mr Markle has given a number of interviews about his daughter, including one in which he revealed Prince Harry’s views on Brexit and Donald Trump.

Yesterday, the Mirror revealed a source believes Mr Markle ‘crossed the line’ with a comment he made about Princess Diana during an interview.
A source said: "Meghan is deeply hurt by what is happening and everything is being done behind the scenes to make sure her welfare is at the top of the agenda.
"It’s an increasingly desperate situation and now it’s come down to three options being on the table.
"Firstly, Meghan could contact her father straight away and appeal to him directly to ask him to stop hurting her, but right now she’s decided to cut him off.
"There is a possibility an intermediary could meet with him and appeal to him to stop making such hurtful statements.
"The final option would be for Meghan to cut him off completely in the hope he will stop, but the situation is so precarious no one knows when that would be."
