Michael Cohen trolls Trump over Russia summit

President Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen tweeted his support for US intelligence agencies and berated Russia on Monday in a clear rebuke of his old boss’s Helsinki press performance.

“As I said to @ABC @GStephanopoulos, ‘I respect our nation’s intelligence agencies who determined that Russia, had in fact, interfered or meddled in our democratic process,’” Cohen tweeted on Monday evening.

“I repudiate Russia’s effort…and call on all Americans to do the same.”

Cohen, who has given an interview to George Stephanopoulos, did not mention Trump in his tweet.

But Cohen’s commentary came just hours after Trump sided with Russian president Vladimir Putin during a joint press conference in Helsinki.

“I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today,” Trump said at the presser.

Cohen is currently under investigation by federal prosecutors in New York and had his home and office raided in April.

The lawyer’s recent statements have caused some to speculate he may be cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible Russian collusion in the 2016 election.
