The body of a Virginia cheerleader who disappeared heading to practice was found behind her home, authorities said.
The discovery came three days after 17-year-old Ke’Asia Adkins failed to show up to varsity cheer practice Monday at Dinwiddie High School, according to news station WWBT.
She was last seen around 9 a.m. Monday leaving her home in North Dinwiddie, a town 40 miles south of Richmond. Her family said the teen’s phone went dead the same morning and they haven’t heard from her since.
“Sometime Monday morning her phone went dead,” her sister Kendra Green told news station WTVR. “Since, no response and straight to voicemail.”
Green said her sister was known to be responsible and always made the effort to stay in contact with her family.
“This is not in her character at all to disappear,” Green said. “If she’s even going to be 10 minutes late she calls and texts my mom to let her know what’s the situation.”
Officials have not released the high school junior’s cause of death.
Anyone with information about her death is asked to contact the Dinwiddie Sheriff’s Office at 804-469-4550.
