It will be a cold day across the capital as winter weather starts to sets in.

There will be a cold start to the day in London with widespread frost on the ground and freezing fog especially in the northwest.

The fog will be slow to clear however most can expect to see some sunny spells towards the afternoon.

The maximum temperature in and around the capital will be 6°C.

Southeastern areas of the country are likely to stay dry, bright and cold with the chance of some freezing fog patches.

Drizzle is likely to move across the west and hill snow may occur towards the north.

There is a small chance that it will stay dry, however an unsettled period of weather is to be expected over the coming weeks.

Snow is possible in some northern and central areas as it turns increasingly cold with overnight frosts and freezing fog.

Conditions are likely to be windy with colder spells to be expected.

Some snow is also likely in northerly parts of the UK with widespread frost also coming our way.

The brightest and driest weather is likely to be in the northwest with milder and wetter interludes most likely in southern parts of the country.

There is a chance of significant snowfall and ice across the whole of the UK throughout this period.
