A young mum and her two small children have been killed in a freak accident as she tried to avoid an alligator.
Amber Stanley was driving with her four-year-old son Jack and two-year-old daughter Autumn along a motorway in South Carolina, in the USA.
The car struck an alligator which was crossing the road, causing the car to veer into a tree.
The vehicle burst into flames and all three of the young family were found dead at the scene.
Orangeburg County Chief Deputy Coroner Sean Fogle said 24-year-old Amber and her children died from burns.
Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones told The State the alligator was crossing the northbound lanes of I-95 near the Interstate 26 exit when the Kia Soul hit the animal around 12.50am on Monday.
The family were from Callaghan in Florida.
