Napanee OPP cruiser damaged after multi-tractor-trailer collision on Hwy. 401

The back-end of an OPP cruiser was destroyed on Thursday morning during a collision with several tractor-trailers on Highway 401 near Napanee.

While OPP officers responded to report of a tractor-trailer that had jackknifed on the highway around 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 7 in Odessa, police say several other tractor-trailers collided near the officer’s parked cruiser.

The cruiser was struck, and although the back-end of the cruiser was destroyed in the collision, the police vehicle was unoccupied at the time and no officers were injured.

One of the drivers of the tractor-trailers was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

OPP say that at the time of the collision, weather conditions were deteriorating, and the westbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours for the removal of the damaged vehicles.

The highway was cleared and opened around 6 a.m. Thursday morning.
