Napoli fans filmed marching through Liverpool streets with ‘golf clubs’

Napoli fans armed with what appears to be golf clubs have been filmed roaming the streets of Liverpool ahead of their Champions League clash tonight.

In footage shared on social media, one smirking Napoli fan is seen punching the air towards the camera.

He is part of a large group of fans, some of them appearing to hold the clubs.

One journalist, from AIPS Media, wrote: "Large group of Napoli fans currently walking around Liverpool city centre, armed with what looks like golf clubs."

However, other reports suggest the fans may be holding flag poles, and no clubs have been found so far.

In a statement, Merseyside Police said: "Merseyside Police is aware of social media posts saying Napoli fans are armed with golf clubs in the city centre.

"Officers have responded and confiscated a number of flags attached to flag poles. No golf clubs have been found."

Jurgen Klopp's side play the Italians at 8pm tonight.

Ahead of the tie, Klopp said: "I expect Napoli to be really strong for a number of reasons.

"They are a really good football team and now they're not in Italy, they feel maybe relief they can play in this game. We have to be ready for that.
