NYPD officer busted for selling marijuana in Brooklyn

Cops busted one of their own for allegedly selling marijuana in Brooklyn

Police officer Gilberto Mercedes, 42, was arrested around 5:25 p.m. Thursday for hawking “a quantity of marijuana” at Knickerbocker and Putnam avenues in Bushwick, authorities said.

He was charged with criminal sale of marijuana and criminal possession of marijuana, police said.

He was also hit with an endangering the welfare of a child charge — it wasn’t immediately clear if a minor was with him at the time.

Mercedes, who is stationed in the Bronx, has been with the NYPD for 14 years, cops said. He earned more than $85,000 last year, records show.

He was suspended without pay following the incident.

Police were unable to provide any further details Saturday morning, saying that the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau is investigating.
