A plane headed for East Midlands Airport has been diverted over France.

According to flight tracking site flightradar24 the Jet2 flight from Girona turned around near the English Channel.

This is because the pilot declared ‘a general emergency’.

It appears to be heading for the city of Rennes.

It was supposed to arrive at 12.30pm after the Boeing 737 left shortly after 11am.

A spokesperson said: ‘Flight LS612 from Girona to East Midlands has diverted to Rennes as a precautionary measure, due to one of the pilots feeling unwell.

‘A standby pilot will be flown to Rennes so that we can get customers on their way to East Midlands Airport as soon as possible.’
