The heart-warming scene was captured on surveillance camera footage at the junction near Sanhui overpass at Mianyang in Sichuan Province on June 4.
The incident occurred during rush hour in the morning.
The frail pensioner can be seen making his way across the six-lane road slowly as other pedestrians whizzed past him.
He was moving so slowly that the pedestrian crossing lights turned red before he was able to reach the other side of the road.
Luckily, most of the drivers waited patiently behind the wheel for the man to finish crossing the busy intersection.
On-duty officer Qin saw the man and offered to help him. He was seen lifting the man and carrying him on his back all the way to the opposite side, pausing once in the middle.
‘The road was quite busy, with a lot of cars. I was afraid that he (the elderly man) might feel unwell if I walked too fast. So we rested a bit in the middle and continued,’ said officer Qin.
He carried the pensioner to the other side of the pedestrian crossing safely.
