WASHINGTON – Secretary of State Mike Pompeo plans to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang on Sunday, the State Department announced Tuesday.
On the agenda is likely the planning of a second summit between Kim and President Trump.
On Saturday, the president said he “fell in love” with Kim during their June meet-and-greet in Singapore.
Both Pompeo and Trump spoke about a second North Korean summit in positive terms last week in New York, while attending the United Nations General Assembly.
“I don’t know when the summit will take place. It may happen in October, but more likely sometime after that,” Pompeo said last week. “It takes a little while to put these together, and we want to make sure we’ve got the conditions just right so the two leaders can be successful.”
While in Asia, Pompeo will also visit Japan, South Korea and China, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said.
