Pupils ‘vomit blood and have seizures’ on school grounds after ‘taking Spice’ at Cambridgeshire secondary

Six pupils at a Cambridgeshire secondary school have been taken to hospital after they were seen vomiting and fainting while allegedly high on the zombie drug Spice.

The children at Thomas Clarkson Academy in Wisbech are believed to have used the powerful synthetic marijuana substitute – which was so strong it reportedly left one of them having a seizure – while on school grounds. 

A spokesman for the 1,200-pupil secondary school confirmed that a ‘small group’ of students had taken ‘illegal substances.’

He added that there would be ‘severe sanctions’ for those involved.

One mum said: ‘My daughter saw one boy having a seizure today he was sitting just behind her! I’d like to know what the school are doing about this!!

Spice has been described as similar to cannabis but its effects have also been spoken of as hallucinogenic.

Horrified parents flooded social media to express their concern, with one parent claiming their child had seen pupils collapsing and ‘vomiting blood.’

The initial post by the shocked mother gained hundreds of comments within hours.

She said: ‘Anyone else’s child come home from TCA today worried after seeing a number of students faint and vomiting after taking spice drug?!’

Another added: ‘My son was saying two children collapsed from smoking it! How scary!’

Other parents responded, confirming the incident and claiming that children had ‘collapsed’ from it.

Another said that paramedics had been seen at the school.

She said: ‘My daughter saw one boy having a seizure today he was sitting just behind her! I’d like to know what the school are doing about this!!’

Another added: ‘My son was saying two children collapsed from smoking it! How scary!’

One also said that her son had confided in her after seeing pupils who had collapsed and ‘vomited blood.’

And a mum said that her son witnessed a boy on the floor having a seizure.

In a statement issued by Thomas Clarkson Academy in Wisbech, the school said that the matter had been dealt with ‘effectively’.

A school spokesman said: ‘There was an incident at Thomas Clarkson Academy yesterday involving a small group of students taking illegal substances.

‘The matter was dealt with very effectively by staff in accordance with our safeguarding procedures and all the children are safe.

‘As a school we do not tolerate such behaviour and we will be taking all necessary steps to keep our children safe in future.

‘This will include a combination of severe sanctions for those involved in the incident along with additional training and support for all students.’

Last year, OFSTED inspectors said that the school ‘requires improvement’ after previously deeming it as ‘inadequate.’

In the report, the education watchdog said that ‘safeguarding lies at the heart of the school’.

Spice has become an epidemic in some UK towns and is also a major problem in prisons.

Users are often left unable to stand or speak and more than two dozen deaths have resulted, reports show.
