Rescuers hunt for two firefighters who went missing during Florida fishing trip
A tackle box taken by a pair of firefighters on their Florida fishing trip has been recovered, but the men remain lost at sea, authorities said.
Brian McCluney and Justin Walker haven’t been seen since they set sail on a 24-foot vessel Friday from Port Canaveral, according to the Jacksonville Fire Department.
McCluney is a firefighter for the Jacksonville agency, while Walker is a master technician for Virginia’s Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.
The Jacksonville Fire Department said it’s calling for as “many boats” as possible to join the search after a tackle box belonging to one of them was discovered 50 nautical miles off the coast of St. Augustine.
Search crews have expanded the coverage north to focus on the area where the tackle box was discovered, news station WESH reported.
McCluney’s wife, Stephanie, wrote on social media that she believes her husband tossed the tackle box to help rescuers track them down.
“I wholeheartedly believe this is a bread crumb they [threw] overboard to say ‘we are here, come find us,’” she wrote on Facebook.
