Squaddie dressed as a military cop and armed himself with a pistol to hunt down his ex at her new university

Pte Conner Jones, 19, pretended an Awol soldier was hiding in her halls of residence.

But he was trying to find Megan Francis, 19, more than 18 months after she dumped him.

Jones demanded access to her accommodation at Aberystwyth University, West Wales, but a warden refused, Swansea crown court heard.

He had stalked her since their split.

Judge Geraint Walters called his uni plot “sinister”.

He added: “If this is the action of a sane person then it is very worrying. This is truly disturbing and bizarre.

"He must have spent hours researching this, for what purpose ultimately?

"I think there is something more sinister about this offending. It is truly troubling that he acquired ammunition for that gun."

Jones, of Caerphilly, admitted stalking and weapon offences. He was detained for 30 months.
