Talented footballer shares heartbreaking photo of his cancer victim mum before taking his own life

Brendon Rudge, 24, wrote “sorry to anyone I hurt” to friends and family before he was found dead at home in Milford Haven, South Wales.

His mum lost a battle with cancer four years earlier and he had struggled with grief, an inquest heard.

Brendon’s final post on Facebook read: “Sorry for anyone I hurt. Please don’t think I’m selfish. I wasn’t the best of sons and friend. I am sorry see you all soon… Sorry for who I hurt. Bye guys.”

At the time of his death Brendon had been suffering from financial issues due to a pay discrepancy at work and was working out some problems with his girlfriend, Jadie Gwyther, reports the Mirror.

Brendon was a talented footballer, playing for local side Carmarthen Stars, but a knee injury meant he could not play professionally, the Milford Haven inquest heard.

Coroner officer Jeremy Davies said: "His mother passed away from cancer four years ago and he found it very hard.

"He had struggled with depression and wanted to seek help."

Brendon hanged himself at home on Saturday August 4.

He was found by his girlfriend after a concerned friend of the couple had got in touch after seeing his Facebook post.

Paramedics fought to revive Brendon but sadly he did not recover and was pronounced dead shortly after.

In a touching tribute, his brother described him as a “dedicated and loving brother that was brave and adventurous”.

He added: “Brendon touched the lives of many and he will be dearly missed by everyone.”
Coroner Mark Layton recorded a conclusion of suicide.
