Terrifying video shows firework exploding by police and injuring children

Terrifying footage shows the moment a firework aimed at police officers explodes next to them.

Officers were patrolling in Enfield, Essex at around 6.30pm yesterday when they were attacked.

The shocking incident was caught on footage from a body-worn camera, Essex Live reports.

The video starts out as a fairly regular scene, with officers walking along the pavement.

Seconds later, one officer turns around and begins to run back to her fellow officers, shouting "firework, firework".

The camera turns as a scream can be heard.

Moments afterwards there is an explosion, with sparks flying into the air just centimetres away from the officers.

Enfield MPS posted the video online, confirming that members of the public were injured in the horrific attack.

A spokesman from the Met Police wrote on Twitter: "Some footage from last night on Fore Street.

"Officers will always be used as a target to throw fireworks at, however members of the public and children were injured as a result of others inappropriate dangerous behaviour.

"Dispersal zones are still in place."
