Texas primary school shooting leaves ‘multiple children dead’

'Multiple children' have reportedly been killed in a horrific primary school shooting in Texas today (May 24), local authorities have said.

The shooter targeted the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, law enforcement sources told ABC News, triggering an 'active shooter incident'.

It is thought the suspect was taken into custody, authorities said with Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin telling ABC News in a text message that "this is a very bad situation."

Tragically, at least two children have died from presumed gunshot injuries sustained in the shooting, Uvalde Memorial Hospital has confirmed.

13 other students are being treated in the hospital's emergency department in the wake of the incident, the hospital said.

Two patients have been transferred to nearby San Antonio for treatment, with a third pending transfer.

University Health in San Antonio has said these patients are a child and an adult.

The adult, a 66-year-old woman is in critical condition, however the hospital gave no update on the condition of the child.

A 45-year-old was also hospitalized after getting grazed by a bullet.

The suspect has been taken onto custody by local police officers it has been reported.

However, no other details, including the suspect's name were disclosed.
