Three people killed after horror crash between lorry and car

Three people have been killed in the early hours of this morning after a crash between a car and a lorry.

The horror accident happened at 4am in Cardiff.

No details have yet emerged about the victims.

Police have warned that one of the main roads into Cardiff – the A4232 between Newport Road and the A48 Eastern Avenue – will be closed for most of the morning.

South Wales Police wrote on Twitter: "Southern Way (near) Newport Road closed both directions due to serious road traffic collision. Likely shut until mid morning. Thank you for your patience."

One of the men was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital of Wales.

Three crews were sent to the scene by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

Forensic officers are examining the spot where the crash happened this morning.

The tragedy comes after four friends were killed when their BMW skidded out of control in Bradford on Thursday.

More than 10,000 mourners turned out to pay their respects at the joint funeral of four friends yesterday.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) named the men who died following the crash on Toller Lane, Bradford, as Murtza Chaudhry and Arbaaz Hussain, both 21, Zeeshan Khalid, 20, and Tayyab Siddique, 22.

Their car crashed into a tree as they were being followed by a unmarked police car at 5.30am.

Today prayers were said for the victims at a service on The Field on Scotchman Road in Bradford.

Verses from the Quran, the Islamic holy book, were read as mourners bowed their heads.

Group prayers were performed for the young men and the service was live streamed on the Facebook page Janaza Announcements.
