Tiny dog crushed after delivery driver throws heavy parcel over garden fence

A tiny Yorkshire Terrier was fatally injured by a parcel that had been thrown by a Fed Ex driver, according to two heartbroken dog-owners.

Mitchell Galin and Keiko Napier say = their little dog Cooper was sitting in the back garden of their California home when a FedEx driver threw a heavy package over the fence.

Mitchell told Valley News: “I immediately picked up the box, and Cooper was in a puddle of blood.”

Tests showed Cooper had suffered extensive lung and liver damage from the impact of the heavy box, which reportedly contained crystal and Christmas gifts.

Despite the vet’s best efforts Cooper’s injuries were too severe and she had to be putdown the following morning.

“It’s painful to watch your dog in pain,” Mitchell said.

FedEx released a statement saying they are investigating the incident and will take “appropriate action” once the facts are established.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the pet involved in this incident,” they said.

"We take this matter very seriously and are working directly with those involved to determine the circumstances behind this event.”

They added: "FedEx Ground understands the importance of people's pets in their lives and deeply regrets the pain that this has caused the family."

Mitchell’s partner Keiko is heartbroken at the loss of her pet and doesn’t think that FedEx’s response goes far enough.

“To me, that’s not satisfactory,” she said. “I feel they need to say they’re going to institute a corporate-wide mandate that drivers cannot throw packages. That’s what I want to hear. I don’t want to hear ‘we’ll look into it.’”

She says that this time it was a small dog that was injured by a flying parcel, but it could just as easily have been a person: “Our grandchild plays out here. My mother is out here gardening. I’m here gardening.

“And the package was so heavy should it have struck one of us, it would’ve caused damage – very, very severe damage,” she said.
