Police in Iowa are investigating an incident involving a drone that reportedly struck and hurt a toddler at a playground.
Cassandra Roberts, 24, said she was with her 1-year-old son, Atticus, on the swings July 24 at Crow Creek Park in Bettendorf when he was unexpectedly hit by an out-of-control drone, news station WTHR reported.
The drone fell from the sky and slashed the boy with its propellers, leaving him bleeding on his face and lips, according to the news station.
She brought Atticus to Trinity Bettendorf Hospital, where he received five stitches.
“It makes me sad to look at him every day because as a mom, you want to protect your kids and you never want them to experience pain,” the mom told the news station.
Roberts said she is now helping police track down the drone operators, who briefly apologized following the incident.
They are described as two men approximately 6 feet 2 with light brown hair.
Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call the Bettendorf Police Department at 563-344-4027.
