US family think woman claiming to be Madeleine McCann may be ‘missing daughter’

An American family searching for their missing daughter think the Polish woman claiming to be Madeleine McCann could be her.

Julia Wendell, 21, is currently at an undisclosed location in California with Dr Fia Johansson, a private detective and self-professed medium who is probing her claims.

She was whisked out of her home country for her own safety after a number death threats were made against her.

Dr Johansson is convinced Julia was trafficked into Poland and isn't her parents' biological daughter. They have now sent samples of Julia's DNA for analysis and she's also completed a genetic test to establish her ancestry (something akin to 23andMe).

Speaking to RadarOnline, Dr Johansson has now revealed that an American family searching for their missing daughter have contacted Julia, thinking she could be her.

The investigator said: "We do not want to reveal the name of the girl or her family because things are going back and forth, and it’s a very emotional time for everyone.

"I feel we should wait until we get the DNA test because we want to know more about Julia’s background.

"Right now, there are a lot of families with missing children, similar to Julia’s age, that are going to be emailing us because they would love to know where their missing loved ones are."

Dr Johansson previously claimed Julia had been contacted by the family of Livia Schepp, a six-year-old Swiss girl who disappeared from her home in Lausanne in January 2011.

The plan is now to await the results of Julia's 23andMe-style DNA test to see what part of the world she can trace her heritage to, according to RadarOnline.

If it's the UK, the investigation will be focused on Madeleine. If Switzerland, they'll look into Livia. And if the US, they'll chase leads Stateside.

Julia's family in Poland have denied her claims. According to Dr Johansson, her mum and dad have also blocked Julia's number and are refusing to take a DNA test.

The private detective and her team have been in Wroclaw (the city Julia supposedly grew up in) where she said they found no hospital records for Julia relating to the first five years of her life.

Julia has claimed she does not remember large parts of her childhood, and that she was never treated as part of the family by her parents or siblings.

She also said she was abused by a German paedophile who resembled a one-time suspect in Madeleine's disappearance. She supposedly found a family photo of that man in an older relative's house.

Other "evidence" she has put forward includes a speck in her eye like Madeleine and her allegedly overhearing her mum admit to "taking" her.
