Wanted man found naked in secret tree hideaway he’d built in croc-infested swamp

A wanted man who was found hiding naked in a crocodile-infested swamp was “in a bad way” and “looked like he needed a beer” according to one of the two Aussie fishermen who found him.

Luke Voskresensky was out on bail after being charged with armed robbery, according to a report from police in Australia’s Northern Territory, but cut off his electronic tag and went on the run.

The next time he was seen he was up a tree, covered in mud, cuts and insect bites, and crying for help.

Cam Faust and his mate Kev Joiner were on a fishing trip in the mangrove creek when they heard Voskresensky’s shouts.

“He’s lucky we found him,” Cam told Northern Territory News. “It was only a coincidence we put a crab pot near where he was, otherwise we wouldn’t have heard his cry for help over the motor. I had to give him my shorts and everything.”

Voskresensky told his rescuers he had survived for four days in the swamp by eating snails. he explained that he was naked because had used his clothes “for bits and pieces over the way”.

His explanation “didn’t make sense to us,” said Cam, adding that the fugitive was in very bad shape when he was found.

“He had a nest made up in the tree," he said, "and he was only laying a metre above the water and there were crocs in the water so he has done well to survive.”

He added : “He looked like he needed a beer, although he was in a bad way.”

Kev said they didn't realise he was a bail jumperL “Once we’d seen how bad he was and how many cuts he had all over him and he was dehydrated and pretty weak … we thought we’d better get him in the boat,” he said.

“We thought he just must have had a big night after New Year’s and got lost and done himself a mischief in the bush.”

Kev and Cam gave Voskresensky, 40, a beer as they took him back to civilisation in their boat.

He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before court on February 9.
