Will Microsoft acquire Activision Blizzard?
On January 18, 2022, Microsoft announced that it will purchase video game holding company, Activision Blizzard, for $68.7billion.
Activision will be purchased for $95 per share, according to a news release via PR Newswire.
Following the news, Activision's stock jumped 27% on Tuesday morning, while Microsoft's stock dipped less than 1%.
This would be Microsoft's largest acquisition to date, surpassing its $26.2billion purchase of LinkedIn in 2016.
Kotick, who has faced demands to resign over the company's culture issues, will stay on as CEO during the changeover.
Following the closure of the deal, Microsoft said that Activision as a corporation will report to Xbox head Phil Spencer.
Kotick is set to step down once the purchase is complete, according to the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday afternoon.
