A MURDER probe has been launched after an elderly woman died following an attack in a leafy Cotswolds town.
Police were scrambled to the High Street in Chipping Campden at 12.30am today.
They discovered the woman, aged in her 80s, suffering from head injuries.
Sadly she couldn't be saved and was declared dead shortly after.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
Police confirmed he is known to the elderly victim and they are not looking for any other suspects.

The woman's next of kin have been informed with officers appealing for information.
Gloucestershire Police said: "Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the death of an elderly woman in Chipping Campden.
"The Major Crime Investigation Team is in the early stages of an investigation and officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to make contact with police."
Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting incident 8 of 6 January.
