Who let the man in?
A Wisconsin woman had a bizarre start to her New Year’s Day when she found a strange man sleeping next to her 150-pound Mastiff, Benton, in the pooch’s bed, WISN reported.
Lynn Sarver and her houseguest both didn’t recognize the man, so the women grabbed knives and called the police to report the peculiar sight, according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Waukesha authorities woke the confused man and asked if he knew where he was. After he put his glasses on and looked around, the man realized he was in the wrong house.
Sarver said the man is roughly 21 years old and lives two houses down with his mother. She said he cooperated with officers and apologized for the awkward encounter.
He mistakenly entered Sarver’s home through an unlocked side door after having too much to drink during a New Year’s Eve celebration, WISN reported. Waukesha Police Sgt. Brady Esser told the Journal Sentinel that the man was “heavily intoxicated.”
Sarver refused to press charges against the man, who willingly returned to his home, ABC15 reported.
“I learned a big lesson,” she told the newspaper, “and I’m sure he did too.”
As for Benton, who Sarver got to serve as a guard dog, he never barked to signal the late-night visitor.
Sarver told the Journal Sentinel that her gentle giant could probably tell the young man “wasn’t a threat.”
