Woman’s body found in garden septic tank after ‘being murdered by handyman’

A women's body has been found inside a septic tank after she was allegedly murdered by her handyman.

Cynthia Cole, 57, was dumped in the tank by Keoki Hilo Demich, 34, who has now been charged with murder in Florida, police say.

Alarms were raised over the weekend after Ms Cole went missing having attended a local art festival last week, and doorbell camera footage reportedly showed the handyman driving the woman's car at the home later that night.

She was last seen on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at the Jammin’ Jensen event in Jensen Beach, driving her 2015 Gray Jeep Cherokee car.

Demich was arrested on Friday after the body was found during a police search.

Police deputies searched her property and noticed the top of a septic tank in her backyard was ajar.

Martin County Sheriff William Snyder said: “I’ve been doing this 40 plus years. I’ve never seen anything like it.

“He made several statements that we know are false so he was charged with second-degree murder.”

And the Martin County Sheriff's office said: “Late Friday evening and into Saturday morning, Martin County Sheriff’s Detectives located a body believed to be that of 57-year old Cynthia Cole inside the septic tank of her Jensen Beach home.

“Detectives spent hours excavating Cole’s back yard, and located the body submerged in the contents of the tank about four feet underground.

“Shortly afterwards, detectives located and arrested 34-year old Keoki Hilo Demich and charged him with second degree murder.

“Keoki performed handyman duties for Ms. Cole.”

The body has yet to be formally identified, but the MCS did confirm that they have “every reason to believe” that it belongs to that of the missing Ms Cole.

No cause of death or motive has been released.
