The plane was forced to crash land in a field in Kamenka, which is in the Novosibirsk region, with passengers reportedly seeing "smoke" billowing from under the wings.

None of the 161 passengers were injured, and everyone managed to exit the plane via the inflatable slides in a safe manner.

Of the 161 passengers, 23 were children and six were crew members.

One of the pilots of the plane was Eduward Semyonov, although it is thought co-pilot Damir Yusupov was the one who landed it.

Mr Semyonov's wife Anna has spoken to Kremlin-backed news site Moskovskij Komsomolets about the moment her husband called to tell her what happened.

She said: “He said not to worry, there was an emergency landing, the hydraulic system failed, but everyone was alive, healthy, and landed well.

“He added that they sat down not in a corn field, but in a wheat field.

“But from his voice I realized that the situation was so serious that everything could not end so well.

“The pilots themselves were in shock as hydraulic system failure is a challenging situation, and a hard landing could lead to an explosion of the plane.”

All those on the plane were taken to Novosibirsk by bus, and were given temporary accommodation in a recreation centre, if needed.

A video published by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations shows that the plane was in bad shape when it landed, with black smoke marks seen underneath and around the wings.

An investigation into what happened is ongoing, and it is thought that the plane will have to be dismantled in order to remove it from the field.
