A VET has warned people from feeding their dogs toxic foods over the winter months as it could end up in an expensive bill.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Adam Christman is a veterinarian and often uses his social media account to share his top tips on how to keep your furry friends safe and healthy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And in one clip, he could be seen in a vest top as he walked around a supermarket to point out all the foods that could end with your dog in extreme pain and could even be fatal.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we approach autumn, pet parents, here are some things that we really want to be cautious of with our dogs,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Walking down one aisle, he showed an entire section full of KitKat\u2019s, Reese\u2019s chocolates, Hershey\u2019s and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHalloween treat,\u201d he wrote over this, explaining that it could cause chocolate toxicity, which could be fatal.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Symptoms of this include vomiting, diarrhoea, increased body temperature, muscle rigidity, and more. It\u2019s recommended that you call the emergency vet if this occurs.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWho doesn\u2019t love a good crock pot meal?\u201d he then asked. \u201cBut watch out for these spices.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n He then pointed out garlic powder, which he said \u201ccauses gastrointestinal, red blood cell damage & respiratory problems\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n Minced onion powder, meanwhile, contains \u201ca compound causing breakdown & destruction of red blood cells and lead to anaemia\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n He also advised against giving your dogs black pepper, explaining: \u201c[It\u2019s] not deemed \u201ctoxic\u201d but large amount causes severe digestive & respiratory problems\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n TikTok user@dr.adamchristman52 said nutmeg is also not toxic, but \u201clarge amounts of nutmeg cause high blood pressure, hallucinations & heart problems\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n He then moved onto the fruit section, where he zoomed in on the grapes.<\/p>\n \u201cVERY TOXIC!\u201d he wrote over this. \u201cJust one grape or raisin can be fatal to some dogs. Severe kidney failure.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n He went on: \u201cSugar free gum & candy contain sugar substitute called xylitol, which is extremely toxic to dogs.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cEach piece of sugar free gum contains enough xylitol to make a small dog death ill. Causes seizures & complete liver failure in a matter of hours.<\/p>\n People were quick to comment as one person wrote: \u201cYep!!! SUPER SCARY!!! I worry constantly\u2026 Grapes & Cherries are NOT ALLOWED in my home..we try very hard to keep our baby safe!!!! We LOVE HER!!!\u201d<\/p>\n Another said: \u201cAlso watch for xylitol in some peanut\/nut butters!\u201d to which another replied: \u201cYes!!!! If getting pb for dog, go for one made for dogs or one with just peanuts in the ingredients. Limit the salt intake.\u201d<\/p>\n A third said: \u201cThank you for the reminder. Also didn\u2019t know about pepper\u201d.<\/p>\n While a fourth added: \u201cI ALWAYS look up anything that is something new.\u201d<\/p>\n Always look up whether something is safe for your dog to consume.
