{"id":223211,"date":"2023-10-10T07:04:59","date_gmt":"2023-10-10T07:04:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allworldreport.com\/?p=223211"},"modified":"2023-10-10T07:04:59","modified_gmt":"2023-10-10T07:04:59","slug":"police-scotlands-new-chief-declares-force-is-discriminatory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allworldreport.com\/world-news\/police-scotlands-new-chief-declares-force-is-discriminatory\/","title":{"rendered":"Police Scotland&apos;s new chief declares force is &apos;discriminatory&apos;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Now Police Scotland&#8217;s new chief constable Jo Farrell declares force is &#8216;institutionally discriminatory&#8217; on her first day in the job &#8211; backing her predecessor Sir Iain Livingstone&#8217;s controversial statement<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ex-Durham Constabulary chief constable said it was a &#8216;difficult message&#8217; for staff<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Police Scotland&#8217;s new chief constable has declared the force is &#8216;institutionally discriminatory&#8217; on her first day in the job.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jo Farrell backed her predecessor Sir Iain Livingstone&#8217;s comments in May that the force is racist.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a no-holds-barred and controversial statement, the outgoing Sir Iain heavily criticised Police Scotland with prejudice and bad behaviour within the force &#8216;rightly of great concern&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>In a lengthy statement, Chief Constable Farrell said it was a &#8216;difficult message&#8217; for staff to hear but she was determined to &#8216;drive an anti-discriminatory agenda&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>The former Durham Constabulary chief constable said: &#8216;I know the acknowledgement of institutional discrimination is a difficult message for many dedicated and honourable officers and staff.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/10\/07\/76367307-12613405-image-m-7_1696919112146.jpg\" height=\"501\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Police Scotland&#8217;s new chief constable Jo Farrell has declared the force is &#8216;institutionally discriminatory&#8217; in her first day in the job\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/10\/07\/76367319-12613405-image-a-6_1696919109849.jpg\" height=\"727\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Chief Constable Farrell has agreed with her predecessor Sir Iain Livingstone&#8217;s (pictured) comments in May that the force is racist\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Having considered Sir Iain&#8217;s reasons, I agree Police Scotland is institutionally discriminatory. People with different backgrounds or experiences, including our officers and staff, have not always received the service that is their right.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The onus is on us to challenge bad behaviour and prejudice, address gaps and eradicate bias, known or unwitting, at every level. by serving officers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The review also heard instances of people being &#8216;punished&#8217; for raising their concerns about the culture within Police Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the time, Sir Iain, who retired on August 10, put the &#8216;onus&#8217; on the force to rid itself of institutional racism.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The right thing for me to do as chief constable is to clearly state that institutional racism, sexism, misogyny and discrimination exist,&#8217; he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Police Scotland is institutionally racist and discriminatory.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Publicly acknowledging these institutional issues exist is essential to our absolute commitment to championing equality and becoming an anti-racist service.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It is also critical to our determination to lead wider change in society.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Prejudice and bad behaviour within policing, as highlighted by court and conduct cases, various independent reviews and by listening to our own officers and staff over recent years, is rightly of great concern and is utterly condemned.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;There is no place in Police Scotland for those who reject our values and standards.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/10\/07\/71406759-12613405-Scottish_First_Minister_Humza_Yousaf_hailed_the_historic_stateme-a-4_1696919043373.jpg\" height=\"425\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Speaking in May Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf hailed Sir Iain&#8217;s\u00a0 &#8216;historic&#8217;
