A US restaurant has caused a stir online after introducing a 'bad parenting fee' on their menu for customers with misbehaving kids.

The Toccoa Riverside Restaurant in the rural town of Blue Ridge, Georgia, has begun dishing out the dining surcharge to encourage parents to keep their children in check.

The riverside eatery has lost its patience with juvenile customers causing havoc whilst their unconcerned parents fail to act.

The cabin-like establishment serves fresh local food including a $39 (£32) ribeye steak and lots of fish.

It also enjoys an overall rating of 4.1 stars from its 2,062 Google reviews.

However, the restaurant has angered social media users after a photo of the menu recently appeared on Reddit, as reported by The New York Post.

The warning is stated clearly on the menu, bluntly stating: “Adult surcharge: For adults unable to parent $$$.”

The restaurant is said to have been charging the fee for a while, but only now have people begun to take notice.

And plenty of people had their say on the matter in the comments section of the Reddit post.

“What is deemed as an ‘adult who can’t parent’?” one person asked.

Another said: “Just say no kids…? Kids can be annoying, but they’re unpredictable because they’re KIDS.

“If I read this at a restaurant I would probably leave,” someone else declared.

Several upset diners have left poor Google reviews of the spot, claiming to have been unlucky recipients of the “bad parenting” fee.

“The owner came out and told me he was adding $50 (£41) to my bill because of my children’s behaviour.

“My kids watched a tablet until the food arrived, ate their food and my wife took them outside while I waited and paid the bill….Disappointed by the experience,” one claimed a week ago.

Another also claimed to have a bad experience bringing his children to eat at the restaurant.

“Don’t go if you have children. We were 3 adults, 2 children and our four-month-old baby and since we entered to the place they gave us a bad look.

“Later my wife was rocking the baby (not crying, just to make him sleep) and this ‘manager’ told her that you don’t do that in a fancy restaurant (of course this is not a fancy restaurant) and later moved our stroller in a bad way.

“Food is not good either. Do yourself a favour…go somewhere else,” the angry parent stated.

Other bad reviews claim the owner dislikes children, can be rude to customers, refuses service animals and serves overpriced and undercooked food.

“I’m not going to go into details about the horrendous night we had here but would highly recommend not going here,” one disgruntled diner wrote online.

Along with the “bad parenting” fee, those thinking of visiting the restaurant should be aware that customers looking to split a meal should plan on paying a $3 (£2) sharing fee.

Unfortunately, however, the Toccoa Riverside Restaurant are far from the only establishment to do so nowadays.

On the Italian island of Sicily, a family were left horrified when a restaurant in a tourist hotspot charged them £17 extra just to cut their birthday cake.

The eatery in Palermo sparked outrage after it revealed its new chopping fee.

And on the mainland, a couple were left horrified after being charged to use an extra teaspoon.

The pair ordered a crema catalana at a pizzeria near the town of Alba and decided to share the dessert, before being slapped with a €1.50 (£1.30) surcharge.

</picture>TAKEN OUT
