MANCHESTER UNITED chief Richard Arnold has claimed the club are "making good progress" despite their dismal 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, according to reports.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils were humbled by their local rivals at Old Trafford as an Erling Haaland brace and a third from Phil Foden handed Pep Guardiola's men a comfortable victory.<\/p>\n


\n<\/p>\n

The result leaves United eight points adrift of the top four and 11 below table toppers Tottenham.<\/p>\n

They have already lost five league matches out of ten – the first time they have done so since 1986.<\/p>\n

Yet according to Manchester Evening News, club chief Arnold insists they are "making good progress".<\/p>\n

The same report states manager Erik ten Hag "retains the full backing of the board".<\/p>\n

But it was the claim that they are progressing that has left the Old Trafford faithful fuming.<\/p>\n

Reacting on social media, one person said: "What progress? The club is a joke to them obviously."<\/p>\n

Another added: "If I was doing a bad job and wanted to justify my poor work, I\u2019d be saying this too."<\/p>\n

While a third replied: "This club is laughable."<\/p>\n

Arnold is expected to be axed from his position if Sir Jim Ratcliffe's 25 per cent takeover of the club is confirmed.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Ten Hag has a contract until 2025 but is receiving heavy criticism for his side's start to the season.<\/p>\n

And his decision to substitute Rasmus Hojlund in the 73rd minute on Sunday was roundly booed by United fans.<\/p>\n

Next up is a Carabao Cup clash with Newcastle on Wednesday, before they travel to Fulham on Saturday.<\/p>\n
