A professional makeup artist has revealed the top three cosmetic products that she would never purchase — and divulged that some of them can actually make your skin look much worse.

Selena Marchand, from Nova Scotia, Canada, has been working in the industry for 16 years and primarily focuses on ‘bridal and beauty makeup,’ sharing her daily life on TikTok as well as her tips, tricks and secrets to help you look even more beautiful.

Taking to TikTok, the first product that she claimed was a ‘waste of money’ were primers, as they could have some horrible effects on your entire look, according to Marchand, who boasts more than 481,000 followers on her page.

‘You are wasting your money if you are using primers,’ she began. ‘Unless you’re using primers for a specific issue like oily skin, they’re a waste of your money.’

Selena Marchand, a professional makeup artist from Canada, revealed on her TikTok the top three products that she would never spend her money on, which included primers

On her TikTok page, Selena shows off her tips and tricks for applying makeup, and even documents ‘days in her life’

Typically, primers are applied before putting on foundation or a tinted moisturizer in order to help smooth out the skin and give that picture-perfect look.

‘A lot of time primers can actually make your makeup look worse, which is not what we want,’ she continued. ‘I just wouldn’t put it under my foundation if I was you.’

The next product, she warned, was one that the makeup artist believes just doesn’t do the trick — and that’s setting spray.

‘I’m sorry to tell you, but setting sprays don’t do anything,’ Marchand revealed in the clip.

‘Setting sprays might feel nice on your skin, but they’re not doing anything to hold your makeup on.’

‘A lot of setting sprays claim to keep your makeup on for the entire day, and I’m sorry, they’re just lying to you,’ she added, showing various photos of setting sprays from cult-favorite brands like Urban Decay and Morphe in the video.

Setting sprays are usually the finishing touch to any full-face makeup look, as they promise to lock in the products and prevent them from smudging or moving around.

‘A lot of these can make your makeup look terrible if you use too much,’ she said.

As an example in her video of what a setting spray looks like, she included a photo of cult-favorite brand Urban Decay’s ‘All Nighter’ spray

Marchand suggested purchasing a miniature size of mascara, explaining that full-sized mascara can be ‘expensive,’ primarily because you should throw it out after three months

‘If you do a bad job putting on your makeup and use a setting spray, it’s not gonna do anything.’

Last but not least, Marchand cautioned against spending any money on full-sized mascara, as it has an extremely short shelf-life.

‘Full-size mascaras are a waste of your money,’ she said, flashing a photo of Benefit’s popular pink ‘Roller Lash’ mascara in the clip.

‘Honestly, full-sized mascaras harbor bacteria and you’re only supposed to use them for about three months.’

‘Chances of you using the whole bottle in three months, pretty slim,’ the makeup artist continued.

‘Full-sized mascaras are expensive, and you just don’t get enough use of them for them to be worth the money.’

In the comments section of Marchand’s TikTok video, some users disagreed with her hot takes

One user dramatically typed, ‘My whole life is a lie,’ accompanied by a shocked-looking emoji face

Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com, Marchand also shared a surprising tip about choosing the most flawless foundation for you skin.

‘Choose the opposite of your skin type for foundation,’ she said.

‘So if you are oily you want a matte foundation and if you are dry you want to purchase a more luminous foundation.’

However, despite her extensive expertise, a fiery debate erupted between some users in the comments section, as a handful didn’t seem to agree with her takes.

‘I disagree about primers and setting spray… I can tell a big difference if I don’t use them… but I agree about the mascara… love your videos,’ one user typed.

Another agreed, writing: ‘If I didn’t use them my makeup would slide to my knees, and I have dry skin. Lol.’

‘Completely wrong about setting sprays.. my skin literally eats makeup with the spray it’s perfect all day!’ one fanatic claimed.

‘My whole life is a lie,’ someone else chimed in.

Another TikTok user suggested: ‘Everyone is different, they don’t work at all for me!’
