{"id":224593,"date":"2023-11-25T08:32:01","date_gmt":"2023-11-25T08:32:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allworldreport.com\/?p=224593"},"modified":"2023-11-25T08:32:01","modified_gmt":"2023-11-25T08:32:01","slug":"uninsured-brit-hit-with-48k-medical-bill-in-holiday-freak-accident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allworldreport.com\/world-news\/uninsured-brit-hit-with-48k-medical-bill-in-holiday-freak-accident\/","title":{"rendered":"Uninsured Brit hit with \u00a348k medical bill in holiday &apos;freak accident&apos;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Uninsured Brit is hit with \u00a348,000 medical bill after huge wave drags her 20 yards out to sea on holiday, leaving her with severe spinal nerve damage<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Charline Edwards, 24, saw &#8216;dream holiday&#8217; in Cape Verde turn into a nightmare<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A British woman has seen her &#8216;dream holiday&#8217; turn into a nightmare after &#8216;freak accident&#8217; left her paralysed and stranded in an &#8216;abysmal&#8217; hospital with \u00a348,000 in medical bills.<\/p>\n<p>Charline Edwards, from Birmingham, was enjoying a beach day in Cape Verde with her boyfriend when she was floored by a massive wave and he lost sight of her under the water.<\/p>\n<p>The wave dragged the sales agent 20 yards out to sea before smashing her into the seabed, causing severe spinal nerve damage which has left her unable to move her arms and legs.<\/p>\n<p>Unable to fly back, the 24-year-old is trapped in a hospital on the island after she and her partner Callum Aston forgot to add travel insurance to the trip, which they had taken from a colleague last minute who had been unable to go.<\/p>\n<p>The couple said they will now need to fork out more than \u00a310,000 for hospital bills and a further \u00a338,000 for an air ambulance to bring Charline home so she can receive &#8216;expert&#8217; treatment.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/12\/78059695-12775005-image-m-2_1700570655472.jpg\" height=\"741\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Charline Edwards, from Birmingham, was enjoying a beach day in Cape Verde when the &#8216;freak accident&#8217; occurred<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/12\/78059693-12775005-image-a-3_1700570667465.jpg\" height=\"845\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Charline, 24, and her partner Callum Aston, 28, forgot to add travel insurance to the trip, which they had taken from a colleague last minute<\/p>\n<p>Speaking from the Cape Verde hospital where Charline was being treated, 28-year-old Callum told BirminghamLive the pair had been paddling in the sea when things took a terrifying turn on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The water was a little choppy but nothing too serious. The flags were green, telling us it was safe to swim,&#8217; the sales manager recalled.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We were less than waist-deep in the water, Charline was lying on her back floating in the water relaxing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Suddenly a very big wave landed on top of her. When I eventually stood up myself from the wave, she was nowhere to be seen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;She was about 20 yards down into the water, where it had dragged her back out to sea, when I managed to find her.&#8217; She suffered a nerve injury to her spine and could not feel anything below her neck at the time.<\/p>\n<p>He added: &#8216;We&#8217;ve had a really bad experience in the hospital.
