IN an effort to avoid reaching for the thermostat, shoppers are flocking to buy a cosy gadget that is perfect for keeping warm this winter.

Electric blankets are a great way to keep warm without putting your heating on and most cost around £40 to £70.

But in the current Black Friday sales some stores have them massively reduced and you can get some great bargains.

Shoppers have been discussing heated electric blankets in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group online.

Whilst some shoppers said they were heading to Home Bargains for a heated blanket, many argued Lidl had much cheaper options.

The Silentnight luxury heated throw is now £24.99 in Lidl down from the original retail price of £40.

The throw is ideal for snuggling on the sofa or in bed.

It’s fleece lined, so insulates well and it comes with nine different heat settings so you choose a temperature that's right for you.

The snuggly blanket is machine washable and Silentnight reckons it will only set you back 1p an hour.

Shoppers on Facebook said they’ve had the gadget for years and now considered it essential.

One user said: “I have one & it’s amazing.”

“I got one last year. Same with the mattress cover and I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IT, deffo recommend,” claimed another,

A third user said: “Looks so cosy. Going to see if I can find one.”

If you’ve got a little bit more to spend the Lidl is also selling the Silvercrest which is £39.99.

It comes with a three-year warranty and starts at just 4p an hour to run.

There is no need to worry about overspending with this one as the blanket comes with a built-in auto shut-off feature just in case you fall asleep with it on.

One Facebook user said: “It looks so cosy to wrap on cold mornings or evenings.”

Another described it as: “Super soft.”

Both of these are not available for online delivery so you will need to head in-store to pick them up.

If you want the Silentnight heated throw then you will need to be quick as the Lidl website says they are already running low on stock.

You can find your nearest Lidl store by using the Lidl store locator online.

Before you head into the store to grab one of these make sure you check to see if you can get one for free first.

Some energy companies are giving away electric blankets for free the year to customers who need them most.

Reach out to your energy supplier to see if you are eligible.

There are a few other things you can do to keep warm this winter without breaking the bank.

Get yourself a hot water bottle, they are always great for a cost-free way of keeping warm.

Don't forget about preventative measures, draught-proof your home and seal your windows to stop air coming in.

Prices for draught excluders start from a fiver in most stores but a thick blanket rolled up will work just as well.

Loft insulation is also very important as it can stop heat escaping, therefore slashing your heating bill.

You can buy insulation from all local builder merchants or retailers such as B&Q and Wickes.

Do you have a money problem that needs sorting?
