Three teenagers have been confirmed dead and two more are fighting for their lives after a horror ‘head-on’ crash involving a bus and a car in south Wales.<\/p>\n
Emergency services were called to\u00a0Ely Valley Road, Coedely Tonyrefail, at 7pm last night and the street remains closed while investigations into the collision continue.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Two 18-year-olds and a 19-year-old were declared dead at the scene with local police saying their thoughts and prayers were with those affected and their families.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Two other teenager boys, aged 18 and 19, were taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff with life threatening injuries.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The head-on collision was said to involve an Audi AI and a bus.<\/p>\n

Superintendent Esyr Jones of South Wales Police said: ‘Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic incident. Trained family liaison officers are supporting the families at what must be an extremely difficult time for them.’<\/p>\n
Anyone who witnessed the collision or the manner in which either vehicle was being driven prior to the collision is asked to contact South Wales Police.<\/p>\n
In addition, anyone with any dash cam or mobile phone footage or who was witness to the collision is asked to contact us quoting reference 2300420639.<\/p>\n
Alex Davies-Jones, MP for Pontypridd, thanked all the emergency services, first responders and members of the public who tried to help at the scene but confirmed ‘utterly devastating news’ was coming from the community this morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Rhondda MS Buffy Williams also wrote on Facebook and said she was ‘hope and praying that those involved aren’t seriously injured’.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She said: ‘I’ve received a call from South Wales Police to confirm they are currently at the scene of a serious collision in Coedely.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘There are very many reports on Facebook, some with differing information. Please refrain from adding to the rumours or speculation, a further statement will be made by South Wales Police in due course.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘Hoping and praying that those involved aren’t seriously injured, and thank you to the emergency services for their response again this evening.’\u00a0<\/p>\n
At 11.45pm last night, South Wales Police issued an update.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A spokesman said: ‘Officers currently remain at the scene of a serious collision in Coedely #Tonyrefail involving a bus and a car.’\u00a0<\/p>\n
Chief Superintendent Steve Jones said at the time: ‘Please can we ask the public to refrain from speculation and rumour while our officers deal with this serious collision.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘These are obviously tragic circumstances and we do not wish for speculation online to cause suffer further distress to the families of those involved.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘The road is likely to remain closed through to the morning while officers investigate the collision.\u00a0<\/p>\n
