EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: The sky’s the limit for Kate as she wins Cosmoss legal case
Kate Moss once declared her motto was ‘Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels,’ which prompted criticism that she was encouraging eating disorders.
Now, the model has performed a dramatic U-turn by using her wellness brand to sell healthy food supplements. I can disclose that she has won a legal battle with a pharmaceutical firm over the name of her lifestyle brand Cosmoss.
It means she has trademarked Cosmoss for ranges such as herbal preparations for medicinal purposes, plus food and mineral supplements. ‘Kate has huge ambitions for the Cosmoss brand,’ I’m told.
Moss, 49, (right) applied to the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) last year to trademark Cosmoss for applications from aromatherapy candles, vitamin supplements and teas to magazines, videos and home furnishings. But I disclosed Danish firm Pharmacosmos had objected to her application.
The company, which makes products for those with iron deficiencies, has been in business for more than 50 years.

It gave a ‘likelihood of confusion’ as the reason for its objection. But now the opposition to Moss’s application has been dropped.
A newly filed update at the IPO shows Cosmoss no longer plans to trademark goods intended for treating iron deficiency, meaning there would be no clash with the Danish firm. Moss launched Cosmoss amid great fanfare last year, claiming it would ‘open a door’ to ‘balance, restoration, and love’.
It’s been likened to a British version of Gwyneth Paltrow’s U.S. wellness business Goop.
It was a change for Moss, who was branded ‘Cocaine Kate’ in 2005 after pictures surfaced that a newspaper claimed showed her snorting drugs at a music studio.
She lost her £1 million contract with H&M and booked herself into a rehab clinic.
Duchess of Rutland’s 61st year gets off to a flying start
The Duchess of Rutland was given the rock star treatment for her birthday.
Emma Manners celebrated her 60th by ‘crowd-surfing’ over guests during a lively party at Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire.
The duchess, who lives in a separate wing of the castle from her estranged husband, the Duke of Rutland, stretched herself flat as she passed over the heads of partygoers – looking like a rock star who had just leaped from the stage into a concert crowd.
‘Made it to 60! Wings outstretched,’ she jokes. ‘Seventy, here I come.’ One of her three spirited daughters, Lady Alice Manners, can be seen on the far left helping to keep her mother in the air at the celebration, which had the theme: Swinging Sixties and Seventies.

Chinese whispers for Boris’s dad
Stanley Johnson is undeterred by Nigel Farage’s criticism of his close links to China – in which the ex-UKIP leader accused him of being ‘in bed with the Chinese Communist Party’.
First, the former I’m A Celebrity contestant entertained China’s ambassador to lunch at his London home.
Now, I hear Stanley, 83, and his son Max had a dinner in their honour at ambassador Zheng Zeguang’s residence.
‘We have to get on with China,’ he tells me. ‘More than ever, there is a need today to build bridges from East to West and from West to East.’ Boris Johnson’s father returned last month from China after seven weeks filming his travels there.

Glossy King’s royal trip
Prince George shouldn’t have too much trouble getting into Eton, if Prince William chooses to send his son to his alma mater.
Yet King Charles may have boosted his grandson’s chances of winning a place nonetheless.
George, ten, was seen visiting the £50,000-per-year Berkshire boarding school with his parents in June.
Weekend: Sir Nicholas Coleridge, who will soon be announced as Eton’s new Provost, has spent the weekend with the King and Queen Camilla at Balmoral
Now Sir Nicholas Coleridge, who will soon be announced as Eton’s new Provost, has spent the weekend with the King and Queen Camilla at Balmoral. The former boss of Conde Nast magazines was joined by his vivacious wife, Georgia. He’s pictured at the Braemar Gathering – the most famous of the Highland Games.
Eton’s Provost – roughly equivalent to the head of governors – is appointed by the monarch on the advice of the Prime Minister. Happily, Rishi Sunak was also at Balmoral.
Was there ever a more magnanimous monarch than Queen Elizabeth II? I hear that she offered Kathy Burke an OBE, even though the actress once called the Queen’s husband Prince Philip a ‘selfish c***’. Burke, 59, known for roles in comedies such as Absolutely Fabulous, boasts ‘I got offered one of them,’ in a discussion about honours on her podcast Where There’s A Will, There’s A Wake. Burke says she told officials: ‘Nah mate. Stick it.’ Charming.
Jeffrey Archer is mourning his personal assistant Alison Prince, who has died aged 59.
‘It seems impossible to believe that until only a few short weeks ago this effervescent woman, who managed my life with such skill and dedication, is no longer with us,’ the novelist tells me.
‘After 26 years of being my adviser, confidante and friend, she will be quite literally irreplaceable, as I have recently discovered having double-booked appointments and turned up at the wrong place, at the wrong time.’
