Surveillance camera has captured the harrowing moment a teacher was gunned down in front of guests at his own birthday bash.
The footage shows how Pedro Lopes de Oliveira Filho was shot multiple times at a venue in Pio XII, Brazil, on the night of Monday, October 23.
He was standing next to friends as those present began to sing ‘Happy Birthday’. At that moment, two men wielding handguns burst into the venue and opened fire, according to local reports.
As bullets whizzed through the air, terrified guests ducked under tables and ran for their lives in all directions. Filho, 37, tragically died from his injuries at the scene.
Those close to the teacher say he was well-known in Pio XII for his online activism, often using social media to speak out against perceived wrongdoing.
As well as teaching in a state school, Filho was active in a number of student, youth and child rights associations in the area.
Police are now working to discover the perpetrators’ identities.
A friend who chose to remain anonymous told local media: “People who live around here all know each other, and these two men are not from here.”
