Prince Harry ‘cares about UK family’ and his children ‘hanging out’ with cousins

Prince Harry sees the US as "home" but "cares about his UK family" and would like his children to spend time with their cousins, a royal expert said.

The Duke of Sussex moved to California with his wife Meghan Markle and her native in 2020 shortly after announcing they were stepping back from their roles as working royals – the couple have remained in the US ever since.

They have made several return trips back to the UK for events such as the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and funeral last year, while Harry attended his father's Coronation solo earlier this year.

They currently reside in Montecito – a town in California – and have not expressed any wishes to return to the UK as Harry now sees the US as "home", royal expert Jennie Bond exclusively told OK!

Before attending this year's Invictus Games in Germany, Düsseldorf, Harry returned to the UK to attend The WellChild Awards event, which was expected to be a "brief visit".

Talking about Harry's life in the US away from his family, the journalist and TV presenter said: "Harry is on record as saying that he now regards the United States as home.

"I’m sure he must miss many of his friends here. Loyalties have become divided and people have sided either with William or Harry.

"Obviously, he doesn’t see his old friends any more living, as he does, thousands of miles away. But Harry is not heartless, far from it.

"He has written about how he looks back with nostalgia at the time when his family was united and happy".

Jennie continued: "So he does care about his UK family and I’m sure he would like his children [Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet] to hang out with their little cousins and to better understand their heritage.

"But I don’t think the two families will reunite simply for the sake of the children. The adults have to make peace before that can happen, and there is no sign of that happening any time soon."

The royal expert went on to say that a meeting between Harry and his father and big brother would "have been possible" during his trip to the UK if both sides agreed on the idea.

Explaining this, Jennie said: "To me, it seems absolutely bonkers that you would come over from California and not see your brother and father for even the briefest of meetings. But it seems that they, and we, have now got used to the idea that Harry will come and go to the UK without troubling to have any family meetings.

"King Charles will be in Scotland, Prince William is due to be in Wales for the anniversary of the late Queen’s death. Even so, a meeting would obviously have been possible, if the will on either side had been there.

"But it seems that feelings are still too raw and the rift too deep. The danger is that this becomes a normal state of affairs for them."
