REVEALED: BBC and ITV’s Euro 2024 group stage TV picks are announced – and it’s good news for Gareth Southgate’s England
- It’s wonderful, but we are baffled and bamboozled by what Big Ange is doing – It’s All Kicking Off
England’s first two games of the 2024 European Championship in Germany will be broadcast by the BBC, it has been revealed.
Gareth Southgate’s side have been drawn in a relatively straight-forward Group C for the competition, alongside Denmark, Slovenia and Serbia, as they look to go one better than Euro 2020.
England reached the final at Wembley, with Luke Shaw handing the home side an early lead, only for Italy to come back and win it on penalties following Leonardo Bonucci’s second half equaliser.
Manager Southgate was in attendance at the draw in Hamburg, but remained tight-lipped on his side’s prospects, yet he will surely be confident of his side’s chances of progression to the next round.
‘We’re third in the world rankings this week, we’ve been in the top five for five years so consistently they’ve produced performances,’ said Southgate.
Gareth Southgate’s side have been drawn in a relatively easy group with Denmark, Serbia and Slovenia
It’s good news for England who have a far better record when their games are shown on one broadcaster over the other historically

‘They are used to that. They have that expectation. They are used to playing in big matches and have produced regularly.
‘They are used to playing in big matches together and individually so we are excited and all looking forward to the summer.’
The Three Lions’ first two games of the competition, against Denmark and Serbia, will be shown on the BBC, before rivals ITV show the final group clash with Slovenia.
It will come as welcome news to the Three Lions – who enter the Euros as one of the favourites – with their record on the BBC historically better than their results on ITV.
Between the 1998 and 2022 World Cups, England lost only twice on BBC, compared to nine on their rivals ITV.
ITV will be showing the opening game of the competition, when hosts Germany take on Steve Clarke’s Scotland at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena.
The Tartan Army’s other two group games will be shown by the BBC, who will also be broadcasting Wales’ group games – should they make it through the play-offs – against heavyweights Netherlands and France.
The showpiece final is set to be broadcast on both channels, with the BBC taking first choice of quarter-finals and ITV getting dibs on last-16 and semi-final games.
Spain’s clash with reigning champions Italy will be shown on ITV from Group B, while the BBC will take on hosting duties for Netherlands vs France.
