Britney Spears has revealed in her new memoir The Woman in Me that she had an abortion during her relationship with fellow singer Justin Timberlake.
Explaining the bombshell news, Britney said she "expected" the couple would have a family together one day, but that Justin wasn't happy about the pregnancy and said they "were way too young".
The Hit Me Baby singer penned in an excerpt obtained by People: "It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated."
She continued: "But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young."
"I’m sure people will hate me for this, but I agreed not to have the baby. I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father."

It was also claimed in the book that Britney was raised "not to get an abortion" due to religious reasons.
The bombshell revelation, which is expected to be one of many in the book set to be released on October 24, followers after claims Justin was "concerned" over what his ex would reveal about their previous romance.
The two celebrities dated when they were just teenagers after meeting at The Mickey Mouse Club when they were only 12.
The duo went public with their relationship in 1999 but went their separate ways in 2002.
After Britney spoke out about her conservatorship, Justin showed his support for the singer on X, formally known as Twitter, as he penned: "After what we saw today, we should all be supporting Britney at this time."
The Cry Me A River singer continued: "Regardless of our past, good and bad, and no matter how long ago it was… what’s happening to her is just not right. No woman should ever be restricted from making decisions about her own body. No one should EVER be held against their will… or ever have to ask permission to access everything they’ve worked so hard for.
"Jess and I send our love, and our absolute support to Britney during this time. We hope the courts, and her family make this right and let her live however she wants to live."
